Joel earned a B.S. in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester, and joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 1986. There, he's worked on building all kinds of prototypes and system engineering projects from radars to software development projects. He is now part of the MIT Beaver Works to increase collaboration between MIT and Lincoln Laboratory scientists and engineers by bringing real-world projects for students to develop solutions. We created the Beaver Works Summer Institute to bring the hands-on and project-based learning to high school students in areas of research in machine learning, computer science and AI related technologies.
